I'm bummed about that one PW-character, the one with the visor that always has coffee on-hand. Since I haven't played any Phoenix Wright games, I only knew him as Dark Sexy Lawyer WITH ROBOT EYES FOR NO ADEQUATELY EXPLAINED REASON, which is a very cool character to have in any story. If what you've shared is true, that he's a not-even-in-an-endearing-way jerk, then I can't really get into him anymore. :(

It’s possible to enjoy a character who is a complete dickbag.  (Many of my favorite characters are.)  But that’s not the main reason I dislike him, the main reason is because most of his fans (and apparently the writers) glorify his traits as romantic rather than selfish and misogynistic.

Also, it’s fine to appreciate a character on a superficial level and still acknowledge that their behavior is unnacceptable in real life. Sure, he’s hot.  (And it’s fine to have a kink for smug, chauvenistic assholes, if that is your fantasy.) The issue for me is that a lot of fans don’t see the issue, and sugarcoat his personality as “romantic” and obsessively pair him with the most awesome strong lady in the games as if they are ONE TRUE LOVES when actually it came off more like a one-sided predatory boss situation. (And she is way too good for him, IMO.)

Of course, that is just my extremely unpopular opinion.  I’m sure the rest of fandom would be happy to fight me. =P
