azurexdream replied to your post: What was your reaction about Amon’s white washing?

I noticed that too. That’s why I was so confused at the idea of him being from water tribe, since his skin had shown before and it was obviously too light. The surgery idea makes sense though. But yes, he looked much better in his teen years as Korra

Not all water benders are dark-skinned, though.

But! All water benders from the Northern/Southern water tribes are dark-skinned. While it’s true that not all water benders are dark-skinned, I don’t really see why that was given as a response to that comment…!

Yakone was white, and if you study genetics, then you would know, even with darker skin tones being a more powerful gene, there is a chance a child can be born white.

…. BUT, with that said, if you do look at flash backs Noatak/Amon is dark skinned as a child and is white when he is Amon, I think they were hoping we’d make the connection he got the same treatment his father did.

(I dun really want to get in a debate)

Nobody in either “A:TLA” or “Korra” is white!  They are all based on Asian cultures (mostly East Asian, but also including South East Asia influence (particularly for the Fire Nation) and Inuits for the North/South Water tribe.  If you don’t want to get into a debate, don’t make such false sweeping assumptions while claiming to be a genetics expert.  Seriously, this fandom will tear you to pieces for saying things like that, with good reason. It’s that sort of thinking that fueled Shamalan’s white-washed abomination of a movie.

Because I realize this post is getting reblogged out of context, I want to add that I wasn’t trying to argue that Noatok is white or should have been light-skinned in the finale. I maintain that that was unexplained and makes no sense, considering that he was the same tone as Korra and Tarrlok in flashbacks.

The only reason I mentioned that not all water tribe members are dark-skinned is because people often forget about the swamp benders, including myself. (I was initially very confused about why Tahno was so light-skinned compared to Korra.)

The issue is that he looked SO MUCH darker before no? He just changes colour without explanation

I’m not saying he didn’t change color (he definitely did, and there’s no canon explanation) but I was just pointing out that not ALL waterbenders are from the North/South water tribe, and not all of them have dark skin.

(I actually have a headcanon that Tahno is descended from the swamp bender tribe, and is kind of ashamed of it.  So he tries to overcompensate by being super pretty and “classy” and basically becoming a parody of what he thinks “slick city boy” should be.)

I think they confirmed a waterbending girl named Asumi who sounds like is also gonna be part of Team Korra? But her name…

I looked her up on the Korra wiki. All we know is that she’s voiced by Seychelle Gabriel, and probably a waterbender.

Seychelle Gabriel is an American actress of Mexican heritage[1][2] who is best known for playing Princess Yue in The Last Airbender, and will be voicing Asami in the upcoming animated series The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra.

Crap!!! Already making headcanons about reincarnated Yue hooking up with Korra

ughhh water tribe
