It’s also weird listening to this soundtrack now, because my favorite character from Mai Hime was the main inspiration for Catharine (and her Evil Cat possession.) I had planned that plot twist over two years ago, back when I was still really infatuated with this series.
Maybe two years from now, you’ll be seeing weirdly My-Little-Pony-esque characters popping up in the comic.
Mai Hime (the show prior to Mai Otome) was way better in my opinion. That’s not really saying much, though. It had really large cast of female characters (perhaps a few too many, in an attempt to cover all their bases) and generally good design. The voice acting was also really excellent, bringing in a couple of old favorites and new rising stars.
The ending was a catastrophe, though. And the fandom- well, they seem to have really absorbed and/or overlooked lot of the problamatic messages in the story- I’m not even going to start, because that is a rant that will never, ever end.
