Oh my god there’s a Sound of Music anime! How have I not heard of this till now??
I might have to put my Sailor Moon rewatch on pause to see this…
It’s really hard to pick favorite panels of Claire, because there are so many moments I want to include. Whether she is clumsily trying to flush a mountain of flying babies down a toilet, or feeding her beloved stray cats, or unknowingly eating her wooden mug while the whole abbey stares in shock, Claire is the most genuine and emotive character by far, and she is a joy to draw and write.
My intention from the start was to build her up as a nervous, self-doubting character who has more inner strength than she realizes. It’s been really fun so far showing her development as she becomes more confident and learns that her strong sense of faith and loyalty to others (especially Catharine) gives her courage to do what is right, even if it means everything she has been trained to think was wrong.
Drawing the textless page where Claire packs up her things and leaves her room had a special meaning to me. I have moved many times to different continents and countries, each time knowing I would probably never stand that place again. Every move feels like the end to a chapter of my life, and it’s both scary and exciting to wonder what the future has in store, and where life will take you.
For Claire, her move is symbolic of the start of her journey to discovering herself and the world outside her tiny, cloistered world.
Her journey has only just begun, and like Claire, I am both anxious and excited to go on this adventure.
I’ve been looking over a lot of the older pages for revising/book work, and I feel like doing a series of photosets of my favorite panels of certain characters.
Catharine probably has the most dramatic panels (not even counting when she’s possessed) so many of my favorite panels feature her. She’s also one of the most complex characters in the comic, and goes through a LOT of rough stuff, so it’s been fun drawing her in all different states of dishevelledness/being possessed.
I also really like drawing her being cuddly and motherly with Claire, which will hopefully happen a lot more in the upcoming chapters. <3
