You know, I kinda get sad over people saying drop is vomit-inducing gross stuff. We have a lot of history around licorice, it's made with care and it's a rich part of our culture. People not brought up with it scream how its bad...feels xenophobic. Like how in American movies you have people going "eww" at eating snails.
I’m sorry, perhaps I was overly critical! I apologize for making you sad. =(
I promise my extreme distaste of salmiak has nothing to do with a dislike for Dutch people, but everything to do with the shock of finding ammonium chloride in my candy and not being able to get it out of my mouth because it’s also extremely sticky. I don’t think it’s the same as disliking food just on the principle of what it is (ie. snails. Which I have tried. They’re all right.). This is a case of me trying something that was sold to alongside sugary candy but tasted like sticky, salty chemicals. I think some amount of culture shock (and regular “OMFG what is in my mouth” shock) is understandable. (But hey, if you want to make fun of my culture, some Italians make cheese with live maggots in it. It doesn’t get much worse than that.)
I made a point not to ask “HOW CAN ANYONE LIKE THIS??” because I know different people have different tastes. I also can’t stand spicy food, it burns and makes me cry and snot all over the place, but I know it somehow appeals to many people. I personally can’t understand the appeal at all, and I get really angry when someone puts it in my food without telling me, but I’m not going to judge people for their tastes.
You’re right though, I’ll stop comparing salmiak to gross things. I’ll put extra honey in my tea now and try to think happy thoughts.
peppersupreme replied to your photoset: Yo Ami shippers I’m real happy for you and I’mma…
Oh, I thought you disliked human X anthro-creature when that whole Chibi X Horse thing happened. I hardly see any gay interspecies romances so this makes me happy. :)
My headcanon is that they have Ami and Luna brilliant platonic romance and nobody else really gets it. ;_; <3 And if I remember correctly, in both the anime and the manga Ami always wanted a cat, but for various reasons couldn’t have one. Now she can have a smart cute soft cat that tells her “YOU’RE THE BEST AMI”
Also I admittedly am not a fan of Chibiusa at all, (and that romance bothered me because she was what… ten?? and talking about marrying a horse) but that could be because I never watched the seasons she appears in. I only read about them and gagged at her design. (I was in a pink-hating phase back then.)
peppersupreme replied to your photoset: I saw this in a comic shop with Chloe yesterday…
Haha, holy swiss-cheese, that’s awesome. I generally dislike the overly shiny desu-look but this artist can draw those princesses perfectly! I do wish to have seen Tiana in it for the sake of diversity.
Me too! Tiana was introduce two years after the comic came out, unfortunately, or they probably could have worked her in.
I also just found out that because the English version was published by Tokyopop (which is out of business), it’s now out of print in North America. =(
peppersupreme replied to your post: I turned my asks back on
inb4 tons of comments about Yamino having a “het-ship”.
In my head Korra is androgyne just like me and so is you -know-who, so in my head it’s not het. >_>
But some characters are so androgynously sexy I really don’t care what they are. I just want them to kiss, is that ok
peppersupreme replied to your photo: <3
What kind of technique do you use to get a pattern flow with the clothing instead of causing the unmoving plaid trope?
I tried overlaying plaid texture, but it looked terrible, so I just drew the lines by hand. It actually doesn’t take that long.=)
I know you mostly love to ship females but do you also have some hetero and/or male-male ships?
I don’t inherently loathe non-femslash ships, but I’m generally so enamored with my cool girls that I don’t focus too much on other pairings. It doesn’t help that the rest of fandom often sours popular het/slash pairings for me by being really obnoxious with their shipping, taking over fanspaces, and often bashing/totally misrepresenting my favorite girls in the process to make them fit their headcanons. (Makorra is the latest example.) I tend to focus on the part of fandom I can personally relate to.
I did one non-femslash fanart lately which got pretty popular. It made me a little sad that so many people wanted that one in their groups, but they rarely want to add any of my femslash art.
Overall, it seems femslash makes up the smallest percentage of most fanworks, and when I can’t find the sort of art I want, I have to make it myself. If there was more femslash art for the fandoms I like, I might dedicate more of my free time to drawing het/slash pairings, but there’s so much of that already, and I feel there’s a huge void I need to fill…
